Nicaragua E&E is a six-year project contributing to equitable economic growth in Nicaragua by boosting Nicaragua’s level of competitiveness in local and international markets, increasing employment, and improving income levels. The project focuses on three areas: 1) improved business development, 2) improved trade capacity (to support Nicaragua’s ability to participate in the Dominican Republic–Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA-DR)) by improving the business climate, and 3) improved human capital. This project works on several fronts, including Small and Medium-sized Enterprise (SME) development and services, trade capacity building, policy reform, leadership for competiveness, and research into trade obstacles faced by SMEs. In the first three years of implementation, the project has created 4,704 jobs, achieved over $24 million in local sales and exports, assisted over 1,000 SMEs, trained over 5,000 people, and generated over $18 million in access to finance.
